Laser Hair Removal

Laser Hair Removal is the safest and most efficient solution for unwanted hair. It is one of the most sought after procedures and is the most effective way to rid yourself of hair with a lasting result.

Our laser technology combined with our highly trained and experience laser technicians can offer superior results in permanent hair removal. On average 6-8 sessions are required spaced 8-10 weeks apart are needed to achieve the optimal results. In addition we stand behind our service and will always do our best to match your expectations.

How it works
The dark pigment in the hair follicles absorbs the heat from the laser resulting in destruction of the follicles and preventing the hair from re-growing. The hair follicle must contain some color pigment to be destroyed, the darker the hair the better the reduction. The GMAX can also reduce lighter colored hair better then any IPL system. As a general rule the hair must be darker then the surrounding skin.

The GMAX protects the skin during treatment for ultimate comfort and safety. GMAX removes unwanted hair as safe as possible without damaging delicate pores and structures of the skin. During a treatment, the Laser light eradicates hundreds of hair follicles within seconds.

Treatment Areas
The GMAX can treat every part of the external body safely except for the eyebrows. It is difficult to sculpt the eyebrows with the Laser.

Even with extensive eye protection, it’s not advised to treat the area so close to the retina due to the melanin sheath located in the back of the eye. The most common areas are chest, back, legs, brazilian and bikini line and underarm. Facial hair can also be removed effectively including the beard on men. Both female and male technicians available for private areas.

Growth Cycle
The hair on our body grows in cycles. There are three phases of hair growth per cycle. They are:

  1. Anagen
  2. Catagen
  3. Telogen

The first phase of the cycle is when hair removal works. It is the only phase of the cycle where the hair is still attached to the follicle and the blood source. The heat from the Laser then travels down the shaft of the hair and penetrates the follicle. When this happens, the heat will destroy the follicle and it will no longer be able to produce hair. There is usually no more than about %20 to %30 of our hairs in the Anagen phase at any given time. This is one of the main reasons why a person needs multiple treatments for Laser hair removal.

What are the risks?
Over the years, Laser hair removal has proven to be a relatively safe procedure. But now with the new Candela GMAX, the risks of Laser have been greatly reduced. The main concern with Laser has always been the damage that the heat can cause, but our Laser has the most dynamic cooling reducing the reason for concern.

Avoid tanning!!!  It will compromise your appointment.

Which hair colors respond best to treatment?
Because the Candela GMAX System targets the PIGMENT in hair roots, they work best on black or brown hair. Naturally red or some darker blondes may respond partially. It really depends on the base of the hair. If you have a blonde\red hair with a darker root, you may have better results. Depending on the tone of grey, Laser may also work partially on that as well.

White hair does not respond at all to treatment – so get your unwanted hair removed before it turns grey or white.

How much hair will grow back and how fast?
After each treatment there will be a reduction of hair anywhere from 5% to 20%. After each treatment you will notice the hair will still grow for approx two weeks. After that your hair will start to “shed”. Within a month or so you will notice the re-growth coming back. How much hair you have in the Anagen phase at the time of the treatment will dictate the amount of hair loss there is. If you have waxed the area you should have your first treatment four weeks after so that the most hairs are in the Anagen phase.

How can I get the best value for my treatments?
To get the best results for the smallest number of treatment sessions, please read these guidelines below carefully!

AVOID WAXING\SUGARING\TWEEZING Basically anything that pulls the hair from the root. Without the ACTIVELY GROWING hair root there is no highway for the heat from the Laser to enter the follicle.

AVOID TANNING. The areas to be treated should not be exposed to unprotected sun, including tanning beds. Protect the area with an SPF of 30 or more. We treat any and every skin type from African American to Scottish and everything in between. But, the lighter the skin at the time of treatment, the better the Laser carries through the skin to the hair roots where it is needed. If you have been in unprotected sun please tell your technician.

TIMING, TIMING, TIMING!! It is so very important to keep the treatments consistent. It takes approx. 8 to 12 weeks for the body, 6 to 8 weeks for the face to develop the next crop of active hair roots and develop the pigment, which is the target. It is essential that you stick to this timing.

What will happen treatment day?
To prepare yourself for Laser hair removal you will need to shave the area to be treated. You may shave the day before or preferably the morning of. With treatments to the face it is important to remove all makeup. There may be a slight chance of the Laser energy being absorbed by makeup. Please inform us if your skin care packages contain essential oils. There are no restrictions on what you eat or drink prior to your appointment. Depending on the length of your procedure you may want to have a snack before you come in and we recommend that you be well hydrated.

Does it hurt?
With the new Candela GMAX laser system, treatments can be virtually pain free. We use the most dynamic cooling available. It is used pre\during\post treatment. The heat from the Laser is what causes pain, so with the area being chilled while your treatment occurs, you will feel very little discomfort.

That being said STRESS and timing can also be a factor in whether or not you feel any discomfort. Keep in mind that having a “bad day”, lack of sleep and/or food or any other situation that promotes stress may lead to some discomfort. When it comes to treatment day, remember to have a good night sleep, food in your tummy and a smile on your face. You may also take painkillers if you like but avoid aspirins and please tell your technician if you take aspirin daily.

Why do I need multiple treatments?
The hair on our body grows in cycles. There are three phases of hair growth per cycle. They are:

  1. Anagen
  2. Catagen
  3. Telogen

The first phase of the cycle is when hair removal works. It is the only phase of the cycle where the hair is still attached to the follicle. The heat from the Laser then travels down the shaft of the hair and penetrates the follicle. When this happens, the heat will destroy the follicle and it will no longer be able to produce hair. There is usually no more than about 20% to 30% of our hairs in the Anagen phase at any given time. This is one of the main reasons why a person needs multiple treatments for Laser hair removal. On a mans’ face this growth can be up 80% at once, resulting in excellent treatments.
